The second issue of Castle has to do with Adderall—something I take every morning. The first decision I made was to have the whole book be in the same font weight. I knew hierarchy is important so I showed that through text sizing, but I wanted all the type to have the same thickness. The book starts out with everything on different pages (heading, byline, subheading, body text) but as we get closer to the middle everything organizes itself onto one page and then it slowly becomes undone—similar to the way Adderall works.

One comment I received after showing the first issue was that it lacked personality so I wanted to add music to this issue. Every morning I turn on music before I take my medication and then I’m listening to it as it wears off as well which is why there are lyrics in the start and end of the book.

The lyrics are also included towards the end of the book—between story spreads—because I wanted to show that Adderall slowly stops working. When it’s wearing off you can focus but it’s also very easy to be distracted.
